Family Backgroud

Mrs. Khadijah Wuraola Garba was born to the family of Late Mallam Musa Adeleke Ahmed (Al-Malawy), former Provost, Kwara State Colleges of Education, Ilorin and Oro respectively and Alhaja Baseerah Titilayo Ahmed, retired Head Mistress, Wesley L.G.E.A. School, Ilorin on 23rd March 1978.

She is the fourth of five children and first girl of her parents, having given birth to three boys. That was why she was named ‘Tanwa’ meaning, ‘the expected one’.

This descendant of  Al-malawy attended Sultanat Centre for Islamic Culture (now Ma’adu Sheikh-l-Labeebu-l-adab) for her Arabic education, under the tutelage of Imam Sultan Abdallah Kamaaluddeen Al-Adabiyy (Sultaanu-l-Mufasiriin).

It was the first of its kind in the history of the Sultanat Centre and a great joy for the Ahmeds when Khadijah and her three brothers graduated in 1989.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Mrs. Garba started her formal education at Muhammed Kamaldeen Nursery and Primary School after which she preceeded to Ideal Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin where she had her First School Leaving Certificate in 1990. She attended Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin for her secondary education and graduated in 1996.

She furthered her education by attending Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin for her Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) between 1997 and 2000. In 2000, she proceeded to University of Ilorin for her degree programme where she studied Educational Management between 2000 and 2003.

Her quest for education took her to the same Better By Far University, University of Ilorin, where she bagged her M.Ed (Educational Management) in 2011.

This seasoned administrator started her career as an Administrator in 2006 at the prestigious University, University of Ilorin and rose through the ranks, currently, she is a Senior Assistant Registrar.

This experienced administrator has served in various units of the University. Between 2006 and 2008 she was assigned the Officer-in-charge of Endowment and Alumni Relations Unit; She served in the Establishments Division (Senior Staff Section) from 2008 to 2009; She also served in the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Engineering and Technology between 2009 and 2011; From 2011 to 2015 she was the Pioneer Faculty Officer, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences; Between October, 2015 and January, 2016 she was Head, Records and Verification  Unit of the Directorate of Academic Support Services. Currently, she is the Head, Directorate of Human Resources, Junior Staff Section.

Similarly, she was the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences representative on Unilorin Muslim Ladies Circle (UMLC) from 2011 to 2015 and Female Care Taker II on Unilorin Muslim Community (UMC) from 2011 till date.

Professionally, Mrs. Garba is a Member of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM)-Chartered; Member, Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria (IPAN) and Member, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA).

 

LIFE STYLE AND HOBBIES

Mrs. Garba is an hardworking, efficient, effective, a silent achiever, dedicated, resourceful, resilient, reliable, vocal, humane and a veteran administrator and manager who is always ready to accept responsibilities and does her best in achieving positive results at any given time. She does not condole laziness and being lackadaisical towards assigned tasks. No wonder some of her subodinates call her ‘no nonesence woman/boss/oga’.

There is an adage which says, ‘Cleanliness is next to goddliness’. This hygienic woman admires cleanliness which she inculcated from her mother. That is why some of her family members, especially her immediate younger sister calls her ‘iya hygienic’ or ‘iya hygie’ (shortened).

In the spirit of been hygienic, she was awarded the neatest girl in primary six. She also ensures she instilled the doctrine to her daughter from childhood, this reflected on her as she got a price for being the neatest girl in her class at nursery two.

Mrs. Garba has other nick names such as ‘topinpin mama’ meaning ‘the inquisitive one/woman’ this is because she asks questions a lot and always ready to learn because learning is a continous process and ‘iya kooko’ among others. She loves writing, reading, pictorial, singing, dancing, listening to music and watching movies.

 

Husband And Wife

Mrs. Garba is happily married to Dr. Mohammed Kabir Garba (her friend of 20 years (1998-2018) and husband of 14 years (2004-2018)) of the Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin and they are blessed with a beautiful daughter, Ruqayyah Garba.
