The University of Ibadan (UI) has increased its fees for tuition and accommodation, for undergraduates at the institution, The Cable reports.
The development was made public in a communiqué announcing the new fee schedule for the 2018/19 academic session, which was released on the school’s website.
nigeriadailytimes.com gathers that not all departments were affected by the increment however. A student of the department of history who identified himself as Temitope, stated: “Not all departments were affected. I think five departments were affected in Faculty of Arts. For those ones, they said its studio fees.
The departments are English, Linguistics, Communication and Language Arts, European Studies, Theatre Arts. They are paying N2,500 extra.”
However, the increment in accommodation fees affected all halls of residence. The fees reportedly increased from N14,000 to N30,000.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigerian Senate made plans to summon the vice chancellors of 38 federal universities over increase in tuition fees.
This was revealed by the chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Senator Barau Jibrin.
The lawmaker’s disclosure came following a statement credited to the chairman of the Academic Staff of Universities (ASUU) of the University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole, who said that universities had increased their tuition fees over poor funding by the federal government.
