Senegal Forced Out of the World Cup in an Uncommon Circumstance
FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 has lived and is living up to expectations. The competition has experienced so much surprises in the group stage let alone what to expect in the knockout stage up to the final.
Few of the surprises is the ouster of the defending champion, Germany, for the first time in decades. Also, Argentina and Spain whom were favourite to win the cup struggled to survive elimination in their respective group.
The latest now is that, for the first time ever, a team has been knocked out of the world cup on fair play.
The victim, Senegal has been withdrawn for receiving more yellow cards than their competitor, Japan. This is considered after having used all ramifications to decide who leaves as both team have 4points from 3matches.
STATISTICS
Senegal Japan
Points: 4-4
GD: 0-0
Goals Scored: 4-4
Head-to-head: 2-2
Yellow cards 4-6
It is very unfortunate for the last African team to leave the competition in such a pitiful circumstance despite their satisfactory performances in the first two games.
I am sure they will not forgive themselves quickly for not grabbing opportunities when they surface.
