INEC to Have Continuous Voters Registration on Weekends
After the successful Ekiti governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held her first general meeting involving Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) from all 36states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The commission reviewed and noted the satisfactory condult of the Ekiti election as attested to by both domestic and international observers. They talked about preparation for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State.
They showed deep concern for issues of vote selling and buying as witnessed in Ekiti and committed themselves for improvement in collaboration with security agencies.
Most importantly, it was resolved that starting from Wednesday 1st of August 2018 that the CVR exercise will take place between 9am and 5pm instead of 9am to 3pm as obtains presently.
Also, there will be registration on Saturdays and Sundays as well as public holidays(if any)within the period.
And finally that voters registration process will end by 5pm on 17th of August, 2018 until after the 2019 general election.
