Umtiti Nodded France to the World Cup Final
The first semi-final game of the FIFA World Cup, Russia 2018 has come and gone. France carried the day ahead of a tough opposition. All thanks to Samuel Umtiti’s header in the 50th minute of the game.
The match started carrying a burden of too much expectations in line with the potential of individual player in each team.
Belgium played more of the ball, pushed France into their half and force all their men to be behind the ball. France on the hand, came to the game with a well practiced tactical play to catch their opponent on a counter.
Both teams created chances to force the goalkeepers to some marvellous saves.
The breakthrough came in the second half when Umtiti nodded home from a corner kick.
As Belgium tried to bring themselves back into the game so as they were wary of France’s fast players particularly Mbappe and Griezman in order not to concede more late in the game.
However, football fans expected a more competitive game having both side scored and possibly get to penalty shootout.
The score did not change till the final whistle was blown. It remained France 1 Belgium 0.
By so doing, The 1998 host and eventual winner, France will play either of England and Croatia in Moscow on Sunday. While Belgium will battle the loser in any of Croatia or England for the third place award on Saturday.
