  • Senator Philip Gyunka says PDP senators have begun sleeping at the National Assembly to prevent any attempt to impeach Dr Bukola Saraki
  • Gyunka said he had also completed his own night shift and was returning for another

  • He insisted that Saraki, being a product of the PDP, had come to rescue the nation Senator Philip Gyunka (PDP-Nasarawa North) has disclosed that Peoples Democratic Party senators have begun taking turns sleeping at the National Assembly in order to prevent any nocturnal removal of Senate President Bukola Saraki by their colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gyunka made the disclosure when he presented his letter of intent to contest for the Nasarawa gubernatorial election to the leadership of the PDP in the state on Wednesday, August 15, The Nation reports.

We gathers that Gyunka said he had also completed his own night shift and was returning for another. He stated: “I woke up this morning from my night shift and I will still be going back to my night shift. That is to say we are keeping vigil.

“We are rotating the shift among ourselves. As regards what they are saying about impeachment (removal), it is not possible because the international community is aware of their plot. “Don’t be discouraged.

They will intimidate you as they do to us. Like myself, I don’t know how many times they have been calling me. We didn’t know they have come to truncate democracy. “But the Senate president, being a product of PDP, has come to the rescue of the situation.”

Recall that Nigeria daily times previously reported that Senator Philip Gyunka, said that any plot to illegally impeach the president of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, will be strongly resisted. Gyunka, who expressed concern over the role played by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, in the matter, said the position of the Constitution on who should be president of the Senate was clear.

According to him, unlike majority and minority leadership, which are from majority and minority parties, a lawmaker can be president of the Senate, irrespective of party affiliation.
