INEC Clears Air on Ban of Phones and Cameras in Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has issued a statement to correct the misunderstanding of the general public about its new policy to ban phones and cameras on election day.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman, INEC, made this clarification in his speech at the INEC Stakeholders meeting on the 2018 Osun governorship election held yesterday.
He said the ban does not asked eligible voters not to use phones or cameras at polling stations but to deny them the use of such devices from the time accredited voters collect their ballot papers, mark them in the cubicle and drop them in the ballot box.
This is said to prevent voters from taking pictures of their votes which aid vote buying.
