NLC starts Nationwide Protest Today Thursday

Peter Ozo-Eson, General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has directed its councils in the 36 states of the federation to start mobilisation of workers in advance of the nationwide strike, scheduled to begin on September 27.

He gave the directive in a bulletin at the planned strike, issued in Abuja, on Thursday.

NAN mentioned that NLC resorted to the strike alternative, due to what it described as the plain lack of faith by the Federal Government to negotiate a protracted past due minimal wage with people.

He said: “Effective from midnight of Wednesday, 26th September, 2018 all industrial unions and all state councils are hereby directed to commence mobilisation immediately.”

“Ozo-Eson noted that the decision to embark on strike, followed the resolve reached by the central working committee of organised labour on the issue on September 12.”

“The NLC had repeatedly cautioned the Federal Government against foot-dragging on the wage issue and to allow the tripartite committee set up by government to conclude its assignment on the matter.”

“The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, had said the committee was not pleased with comments attributed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on the wage issue.”
