NLC to Embark on Nationwide Strike November 6 Over Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans to shutdown the country from November 6, if the government fails to pass the 30,000 Naira new minimum wage.

NLC urged Nigerians to stock food and other necessities ahead of the planned indefinite nationwide strike.

The resolution was reached in a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The workers’ union said they are not bothered by the ‘no work, no pay’ policy of the federal government, as the right to go on strike is both a human right and a trade union right.

The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba and General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson, have asked workers to disregard government’s directive on “no work, no pay” because workers are already owed arrears of salaries.

The NEC also called for a national day of mobilization and sensitization rallies for all workers on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, to educate and sensitize Nigerians on the plights of workers and pensioners in the country.
