Bukola Saraki Calls for Ceasefire by the Army Against Shiite
The Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, Dr Bukola Saraki reacts to the situation in Abuja, calls for absolute restraint of both party involved, in order to give lasting peace a chance.
He condemns the killing of Shiite members protesting in demand for the release of their leader, El-Zakzaky, by the Nigeria government. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria alleged that the Nigerian Army are killing their members having a peaceful protest.
Sen. Saraki said the unfortunate incident has claimed numerous lives and loss of property.
“From the reports I have received, the ongoing protest in Abuja is escalating — with significant loss of lives and damage to property. Right now, I call on the protesters and our security agents to exercise extreme restraint and tow the path of peace.”
