Flooding: Nigerian Senate Takes Decisive Action
Today, the Senate passed a Motion to address the recent flooding across the nation.
The Motion, sponsored by Senators Kabiru Gaya and Senator Stella Oduah, and co-sponsored by 105 other Senators, called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately send relief materials to the affected victims in states across the federation.
The Senate further called on the Federal Government to convene a stakeholders meeting in collaboration with the Cameroonian Government to scrutinise the recurrent flooding in the country, in order to develop lasting solutions to the problem.
The Senate also urged the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to rehabilitate existing fans and dredge the major rivers to be able to take in flood waters.
The resolution further commended NEMA, the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief (PCFR) and other relevant agencies, organizations and individuals whose efforts in creating awareness have led to reductions in casualty levels.
