PDP Protests Against the Outcome of Osun Election
The People’s Democratic Party earlier today staged a protest against the outcome of the Osun gubernatorial election that produced Gboyega Oyetola of APC as the next governor of Osun.
The election which was declared inconclusive while the candidate of PDP, Ademola Adeleke was leading was finally declared in favour of the candidate of the ruling party. This raised eyebrows across the country as majority of the people said it was rigged.
As a result of the above insinuation, the PDP has deemed it fit to protest against the verdict of the election and calls for the continued independence of INEC. Top leaders of the party led the protest from the party’s headquarters to INEC headquarters in Abuja.
Some of the leaders include the President of the Senate and a presidential aspirant, Dr Bukola Saraki, the Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, another presidential aspirants, Aminu Tambuwal, Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa among others.
“Today, I joined other leaders of our great party @OfficialPDPNig, on a protest from our party headquarters to @INECNigeria to protest against the outcome of the Osun State election and to demand for the continued independence of INEC.” The Senate President tweeted via his official handle.
After the protest to INEC office where two commissioners attended to them, the protesters moved straight to the Police headquarters where it turned sour. The PDP leaders were barricaded by armed police officers to stop the action.
The police teargassed the People in order to disperse them to mar the exercise. They also harassed and molested some of the Senator particularly Senator Dino Melaye and Ben Murray-Bruce.
