Reasons why the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general election, Atiku Abubakar, did not travel to the United States of America have been revealed. Sources within Atiku’s camp said, although the PDP’s presidential candidate has been issued a visa, his inability to head to the US followed the launching of his campaign.

According to a source, Atiku could not afford to miss the launch of the opposition party’s campaign which is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 3, NIGERIA DAILY TIMES reports.

“He will certainly travel to the US but the campaign cannot kick off in his absence. That would be ridiculous,” the source said. Other sources said the PDP’s flag bearer aborted his US trip because he needs assurances that he would not be embarrassed over allegations of corruption for which Congressman William Jefferson and Siemens have been convicted.

A case which the PDP presidential candidate has denied. Meanwhile, nigeriadailytimes.com previously reported that Atiku had appointed Phrank Shuaibu and three youths including a woman as his aides. The media adviser to Atiku, Paul Ibe, confirmed this in a statement to newsmen on Sunday, December 2, in Abuja.
While Ahmed Adamu is the special assistant on youth and strategy, Aliyu Bin Abbas will handle youth support groups.
